MODEL SPOTLIGHT | VOL.3 | ISSUE.2

Charmaine is taking the world by storm, with her striking looks & amazing personality. We caught up with her to ask a little more about her journey!

Q1.Hello Charmaine, can you introduce yourself to Swanky Magazine's readers?

My name is Charmaine Dore born in 1999. l have been living in the heart of Harare for years now. l am a commercial, fashion, pageantry and a fitness model based in Harare, Zimbabwe. l'm a young lady who totally hates selfishness, violence, laziness and pride. In my spare time l love to go for fishing fish as a pet ,but not as a dish. Reading magazine's and baking though sometimes it doesn't always come out the way l like are my hobbies.

Q2. How did you get involved with modeling ?

I get involved with modelling after the experience that almost destroyed myself which was the fact of body shaming which is very common in Zimbabwe .This issue totally affected myself emotionally and to a greater extend because it marked the beginning of underestimating my inner power, fear and lack of confidence was built inside myself. As l was no longer being able to share my own opinion with others because I was afraid that they might not give myself an ear. This experience impacted my life because engaging into activities that l was more passionate about became a dream that I was not going to change from dreaming to reality.

This was all because they are other people who thinks they are better than other people , but l think one must always remain humble. We are all human and yes the colour of our blood is the same .Rather than calling other people with offensive names or asking offensive questions. Remember bad things you say to someone it can steal their confidence or self esteem. Body shaming was the experience that almost cost myself a life , however l decided to go out there and fetch my life and get involved with modeling.

Q3. What do you love most about being a model?

There are a couple of reasons which includes: Being a model made me to understand the effects of clothes because when you're smartly dressed, the knowledge of it and the feeling of it will boost your self-confidence. lt also changed my attitude as l never felt confident when appearing in front of many people and in front of flashing lights of the cameras before I got involved with modeling. Being a a model created me an opportunity to be a beacon of light for those who feel as if they're in the dark -a catalyst for change .As it am using modeling as a platform for me to be an ambassador to educate young people about societal issues e.g educating them about the danger of abusing drugs and the dangers of early child marriages. lt also gave the opportunity to learn about the problems that I was not aware of which as been affecting young people.

Q4. What fuels your imagination and provides you with inspiration?

Willingness, the power to act and the belief of being not afraid to try and fail, but not to fail to try . As it as been said "if you can dream of it ,you can achieve it" and to not let the fear of the unknown to steal your future, as it seems impossible until it is done fuels my imagination.

My aunt Patricia provides me with inspiration as she always tells me "it's better to have tried and failed , than to have failed to try " ,due to the fear of criticism which she once said "it is the Mercury to destine and for the sake of success it is important". These words made me to understand that most famous people were either rejected or failed first, but did not give up . They dusted themselves off , hold their head erected and kept on moving .

Q4. Let us into a secret, what is a beauty trick you do before a photoshoot ?

If going to a photoshoot the next day sleeping in time is essential , drinking plenty of water , the importance of washing my face every morning and before l go to bed and the use of Vaseline as a my moisturizer does the trick .

Q5. What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future.

I am thinking to start an Agricultural project as a way to help young women who continue to lag behind. My big aim to start this Agricultural project in my community is to support and empower early mothers to be self sufficient , as they struggling alot to support and raise their children after being impregnated and left behind. I would to start this project for early mothers because some of them are now indulging in activities that they know are deviant to the community and some cases behavior which puts their lives at risk for example abortion which is very painful. It is sometimes due to rejection challenges that they are facing in the community .l believe doing so it will help to create employment for the young women.

Rather than giving them a small and steady stream of cash as a way to help them with no strings attached may be the smartest way to address poverty and encouraging these early mothers to remain poor .l think Agricultural project it could be a great wealth generator for the young women after growing and selling their crops.
THEME FOR MY UPCOMING AGRICULTURAL PROJECT: "IT TAKES A COMMUNITY TO RAISE A CHILD"

Lastly l would like to do a body shaming awereness campaign with a big aim to motivate young people to be more confident with the type of bodies they do have for them to become the best version of who they are created to be and to asides the struggle of reducing food intake fo the fear of adding weight .

Goals for the future.

I would like to own an agency in the future to discover , nurture and promote talents among youths in Zimbabwe...Studying a degree in BCOM accounting and to qualify as a Chartered accountant.
l would like to leave a legacy behind of continuous support of empowering early mothers through my upcoming Agricultural project.
