Ellie Rich Interview - I love to create something that gives people the feeling that dreams are real
Swanky Magazine Interviews the wonderfully talented photographer - Ellie Rich
PHOTOGRAPHER SPOTLIGHT | Ellie Rich a Colorado-based photographer
Q1.Swanky Mag: Hello Ellie, Can you introduce yourself to Swanky Magazine's readers? Can you tell us a little about you?
Hello there! My name is Eleonora Richardson, known as Ellie Rich. I'm a Denver-based photographer, specializing in Fine Art portraits, Fantasy, High-end Fashion, and Aesthetic Boudoir. My photography is not limited to these genres - I simply enjoy working on unique, complex, and challenging projects that have a lot of space for creativity and require a strong skill set.
I love to give people a possibility to unleash their inner self, to experience something unusually beautiful and dreamy. Even more, I love to see their reaction when they realize that this surreal beauty is their own image, captured through my lens! It is never solely about taking photos, it is about giving my clients a possibility to experience a dream photo session that will bring to life great parts of their personalities they never knew they had. That is why I love photography! Whilst it is my main occupation that took me all over the world throughout the recent 15 years, I also work on various projects as an art director, model, fashion designer, life coach, and troubleshooter.
Q2. How, and when did you get into photography? And Why did you choose fashion designing as a career?
It's an interesting question, indeed. I think I was born to be wild and my mind is always full of ideas that don’t let me be passive. Thanks to my mother since my childhood I was involved in various artistic ventures like playing in TV advertisements, TV shows, singing, leading festivals, and fashion shows where I would sometimes also be a model. I simply couldn’t stay away from the artistic world, nor did I want to. So over the last decade, I dived into many forms of making visions real and that’s what I enjoy in life the most. I started as a teenage photographer and student in Modelling & Acting Agency – both paths gave me a good foundation to explore further. Currently, I’m occupying myself mostly with photography and modeling (sometimes simultaneously, in the most creative forms), fashion & graphic design, Digital Marketing, and Troubleshooting. Additionally, I support some of my clients as a life coach and fitness advisor.
My curiosity to discover more was always motivating me for further artistic exploits, therefore I’m constantly honing my skills and crave to annihilate any boredom that may appear on the horizon.
Concerning fashion design - I never chose it as my career. I designed my first dress when I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I kept doing it for all my creative projects ever after as it gave me a possibility to bring to life the exact thing I can imagine, without going for something that would look somehow alike. I enjoy it! Nevertheless, I don't plan to sell my creations in the nearest future.
Q3.What does photography mean to you?
Photography is an art that gives a lot of creative freedom to the one that wants to master and hone the skills to achieve the desired results. I love it! I do enjoy everything that I do and I do what I enjoy! It is as simple as that – because life is too short to get engaged in activities that put your spirit down…
I love to create something that gives people the feeling that dreams are real, I’m glad to see the excitement and happiness of those I worked with because they are satisfied with the results, I enjoy uplifting people and showing them that they are as great as they can allow themselves to be.
Q4.Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers, and Which area of fashion do you specialize in?
I'm a photographer, specializing in Fine Art portraits, Fantasy, High-end Fashion, and Aesthetic Boudoir. My photography is not limited to these genres - I simply enjoy working on unique, complex, and challenging projects that have a lot of space for creativity and require a strong skill set.
Q5.Where do you get your inspiration from?
From everywhere! This world is truly full of wonders for those who know how to see and appreciate them.
Q6. Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
Definitely - I always shoot with the edit in mind. I create a complete concept beforehand but I always live space for the main characters to influence 'their story' in a unique, personal way. It keeps my work genuine and authentic for every single client I work with.
Q7.Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Photography is my full-time job for almost 15 years.
Q8. What has been your most memorable session, and why?
I can't answer this question as I enjoy working on every project.
Q9. Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Neither - I prefer Sony. Favorite lens - hard question as It depends on the project and what is the desired result.
Q10. According to you, what are the skills that are necessary for becoming a successful fashion designer? Also, what is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new designer/photographer looking to start their own business?
Be creative and be smart. Sometimes crazy ideas can attract a lot of attention but they will not make a strong impact. When you put a lot of thoughts and soul into your creations and think about the details they become unique, meaningful, and therefore memorable.
Also, never stop learning and trying to get better in what you do and aim at being better than you were yesterday.
Q11. What do you think of our new magazine?
I think that it is a nice combination of inspiring ideas and classic elegance. The variety of different colors and themes represented provide the reader with something to think about.
