Swanky Magazine Interview - Enter the glam! - Tracy Williams
MODEL SPOTLIGHT | Tracy Williams based in Philadelphia, PA
We caught up with beautiful Tracy to talk about all things modeling and her future goals!
Q1. Swanky Mag: Hello Tracy, Can you introduce yourself to Swanky Magazine's readers?
Hi Swanky Mag and readers, I’m Tracy Williams, a 23-year-old Philadelphia native who’s currently running for the title of Miss Pennsylvania USA on April 23rd. I own a business called “More Than Just a Woman”. We are a woman empowerment company dedicated to feminine elevation. We teach all things focusing on confidence, character, and destiny. I’m an inspirational speaker who’s spoken throughout Philadelphia. I’ve also spoken to the youth in Liberia virtually, last year.
Q2. How did you get involved with modeling, and what do you love most about being a model?
I’ve always had an innate interest in modeling ever since I was a little girl. I struggled with self-hatred and body for a long time. Constantly sought validation from peers since I couldn’t see myself properly. I figured beauty was a way to heal the trauma, but I did not feel that “pretty”. Now, I model for my younger self and any other woman who can see herself in me. I hated feeling alone and like I had no one to look up to that looked like me, beyond being black. I mean from my wide and flat nose, round small lips, asymmetrical features, big forehead. I didn’t care what race looked like me, I just wanted to be affirmed in my beauty. I kind of went on a tangent, I’m sorry *laughs*. To answer your question, what I love most about modeling is being able to influence people, tell a story, and feel beautiful.
Q3. What fuels your imagination and provides you with inspiration?
Honestly, how far I’ve come. I grew up in Philadelphia, not in a super bad neighborhood but still. Philly, you know? My birth mother had schizophrenia, breast cancer, and depression. My father also had mental health issues and an alcohol addiction. I was adopted at birth and separated from my four sisters. I grew up feeling like I had no reason, no purpose, and no passion. So, for me to be in the position that I am in today is nothing short of a miracle and a testament to God‘s grace. My imagination is fueled by the hope for a better tomorrow, the hope I have for an impactful family, a legacy, and lasting change in any life that I can impact. My inspiration comes from women like my grandmother, intelligent, kind, resourceful, opinionated, and possibly lonely. I believe that some women can be too independent and sabotage the life they’d truly love out of fear and misinformation. I strive to learn from women like my grandmother and to bring women into a balanced space.
Q4. Let us into a secret, What is a beauty trick you do before a photoshoot?
It’s a wellness trick, called embodiment. I like to take a few minutes to pray and envision what way I will show up to this shoot. I check in with myself as well.
Q5. What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future?
I’m looking forward to launching my “More Than Just Pageantry” program under my business More Than Just a Woman. In this program, we focus on confidence and personhood. You don’t have to run for a pageant to join. This is for women who want to perfect their signature presence. We focus on mindset, walk, presentation, and sisterhood. I’m also excited about taking my programs and putting them in schools around Philadelphia, then expanding to other areas.
My goal for the future is to continue the path I’m on now, sign to a modeling or talent agency, win a state title (hopefully national and international too), own and invest in property and businesses, and live outside of the country for a few years, maybe even start a family across the country.
There’s sooooo much that I’m doing and will do. I’d love for you all to stay up to date with me. Send me a message! Thanks for reading, Ciao!
