Lucasfilm’s Original Live-Action Series, Acolyte, Premieres June 4 with First Two Episodes

Star Wars fans, rejoice! Disney+ has announced news on Lucasfilm’s new original series, “Star Wars: The Acolyte”. Set during the High Republic era, the series explores prime time for the Jedi.

This live-action tale introduces a thrilling investigation into a shocking crime spree. It pins respected Jedi Master, Sol (played by Lee Jung-jae), against a dangerous warrior from his past, Mae (played by Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, the characters delve into a dark path where sinister forces reveal that things are not as they seem.

How does this show vary from other Star Wars titles?

The High Republic era, a new concept to Star Wars, was first mentioned in a flashback in the comic "The Lost Stories, Part 1," published in Star Wars Adventures (2017) 30. Since then, it has brought out the multimedia narrative beginning in 2021 with the novel “The High Republic: Light of the Jedi”.

This era also appears in the game Jedi, Survivor, which features flashbacks involving High Republic-era Jedi Masters Dagan Gera and Santari Khri, as well as her droid, ZN-A4 (Zee).

What is the High Republic Era's place in the timeline?

The High Republic era spans from 500 to 100 years before the Skywalker Saga and takes place hundreds of years after the fall of the Old Republic. Although the show is unlikely to feature familiar characters, a few well-known characters, such as Yoda and Jedi Masters Dagan Gera, Santari Khri and Master Rancisis who Santari mentions like Yoda enjoys great longevity and served on the Jedi Council during the High Republic and through the events of the Skywalker Saga (he’s one of few to survive the Jedi Purge and go into hiding, with his ultimate fate still unknown to this day), were present during this era.

Who are the cast and crew of The Acolyte?

The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Leslye Headland created the series, based on Star Wars by George Lucas, and serves as an executive producer along with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are the co-executive producers. Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Eileen Shim and Rob Bredow are the producers.

Headland also directed the premiere episodes (Eps. 101 & 102). Directors Kogonada (Eps. 103 & 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (Eps. 104 & 105) and Hanelle Culpepper (Eps. 106 & 108) round out the directing duties on the series.

Award-winning composer Michael Abels, known for his work on “Get Out” and “Us,” scored “Star Wars: The Acolyte.”

When does the series release and how many episodes are premiering?

The series launches on Tuesday, June 4, with the first two episodes, exclusively on Disney+.
