Swanky Magazine Interviews talented photographer - Danielle J. from Atlanta, GA

PHOTOGRAPHER SPOTLIGHT | Danielle J

Q1.Swanky Mag: Hello Danielle, Can you introduce yourself to Swanky Magazines readers? Can you tell us a little about you?

I go by Danielle J. or dvnielleJ is. I’m a Creative Photographer, 28 years old and I’ve been a photographer for a little over 7 years.

Q2.How and when did you get into photography?

I started photography in college back in 2012. I stayed on the 12th floor in my dorm and I was so amazed by the sunsets I would see. But I just didn’t have enough money for a camera so I captured them on my phone. Two years passed and I was then a junior in college and I did not know what I desired to do. I prayed and asked God for help then I felt an urge to take photos again. I brought a camera, a canon 60d, and the rest was history.

Q3.What does photography mean to you?

It means I’ve been given the ability to capture the beauty of God’s creation.

Q4.Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I have a vintage kind of style. I love the 90’s type of photos or old photos you find in your mother’s photo album so that’s the look I mostly go for. I also love fashion so I try to mix fashion and art together in my work.

Q5.Where do you get inspiration from?

Black people. I love our culture, I love how creative we are. Our movies, music, style, but we

have to love it first. Sometimes I just ride through an old neighborhood to get inspo.

Q6.Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?

Yes! I come up with a vision board, the location, and I specifically choose the model. I’m intentional about every photoshoot I do. I believe vision is important, so if I can see it I can create it.

Q7.Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

A little of both, I consider myself a paid professional but I make sure that I keep it a hobby so I can always stay in love with my why. Sometimes focusing on money can deter you from why you began.

Q8. What has been your most memorable session, and why?

I kind of don’t have one but if I had to choose I would choose the shoot of the guy in pink. The shoot came out just how I envisioned it.

Q10. What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Figure out your niche, which is what lane of photography would you like to take over. Find your

lane then figure out what separates you from the others. This is a saturated field but understand there is only one you. And please have a bigger goal than money.

Q11. What do you think of our new magazine?

Amazing!! Love seeing creatives emerge!
