Swanky Magazine Interviews the wonderfully talented photographer - Julia Novikova
PHOTOGRAPHER SPOTLIGHT | Julia Novikova from Russia, who lives & works in Moscow.
Q1.Swanky Mag: Hello Julia, Can you introduce yourself to Swanky Magazine's readers? Can you tell us a little about you?
Hi, my name is Julia Novikova, I am from Russia, I live and work in Moscow.
Dear readers of Swanky Magazine, glad to welcome you. My name is Julia, and I’m a very creative person. Since I was a child, I was engaged in theatrical skills. I graduated from university, faculty of advertising and design then worked at postpro in Moscow - that produces advertising for television and radio. I always had a camera with me in 2019 I took photography not only as a hobby but also as my main job. I had the chance to learn from the best specialists in the industry, attended master classes, seminars and reached the level that allows me not only to take beautiful pictures but also to publish in magazines, which made it possible to turn a hobby into a favorite job.
Q2.How and when did you get into photography?
At first step I started to take pictures of my friends while studying photography, then in 2019 I have gained my clients and started working with professional models.
Q3. What does photography mean to you?
Photography for me is not only a style and a beautiful picture, but also an opportunity to see a person from the inside. After all, every person is beautiful in their own way. Photography gives many people confidence and shows their best sides. I do not use Photoshop in my work, I prefer naturalness and like to reveal people with the help of photography.
Q4.Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I like photography styles such as female portrait, boudoir, fashion, and lifestyle
Q5. Where do you get your inspiration from?
My inspiration I take from cinema and music works of famous photographers such as Peter Lindberg, Ellen von Unwert, Patrick Demarchelier, also from street sounds, fog, and travel.
Q6.Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
I prepare for filming in advance – selecting studio or creative space, instead of collecting images with stylists, working on makeup with makeup artists, I compose a moodboard, looking for a model that matches the concept of shooting, collecting playlist and only after all the statements, I start to create.
Q7. Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Despite the fact that I am already a successful commercial photographer, I am constantly improving and honing my skills. Photographer should be versatile, fashion does not stand still - you have to be always in the subject and give out quality works. When traveling, I love being a human being who just loves to take pictures.
Q8. What has been your most memorable session, and why?
The most memorable photo session was summer shooting in the countryside, it was sunny and warm. There was a bathtub filled with water and fresh flowers in the blooming garden, the model was in a silk shirt. This Image effectively combined the sophistication of the model and bright decorations. These works have been published in several journals.
Q9. Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Sony! Favorite lenses 35mm, 85mm
Q10. What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
My advice to beginners is to shoot! Shoot! Shoot! Shoot! Do not part with your camera, do not be afraid to try new things, look for faces that inspire you. Watch movies, works of inspiring photographers. Don't despair if it doesn't work out. Only through constant practice, you can find yourself and your style.
Q11. What do you think of our new magazine?
Swanky Magazine is a modern, interesting publication. This is a magazine that, I am sure, will perfectly recommend itself and give a good opportunity for photographers to express themselves.
