MUA SPOTLIGHT | VOL.II | ISSUE.4
Q1.Swanky Mag: Hello Tishonna, Can you introduce yourself to Swanky Magazine's readers? Can you tell us a little about you?
My name is Tishonna but most in the industry know me as Tish Ferguson. I have been a makeup artist and hairstylist in television and film for the last 10 years. I’m a Leo and I like long walks lol. But seriously I love long walks in nature that boost my creativity and inspire my work. And being a Leo is a big part of the reason I have combined my talents. We are determined to be great at everything we do!
Q2. How and when did you get into being a Make-up artist/ photographer?
I have been doing makeup for 10 years and I have been shooting my work seriously for the last 5 years. These are skills that I tapped into as a teenager and learned I could turn into my career. I’m a makeup artist first but photography has a place on the passenger side. Taking photos of my work has made me a better artist when working in television. The way I see light and the way I understand how products show up in different scenarios has made me an artist that can execute in all situations. A MUAgrapher I look up to Danessa Myrick’s said this in one of her classes and I held on to this and decided to see how this advice if applied would make me better. I’m happy I listened.
Q3.What does photography mean to you?
Photography means telling my story. Showing the world how I see it. Showing my client how I see them. Photography is my worldview of the world.
Q4.Please briefly describe your style for our readers.
My style is moody
Q5.Where do you get inspiration from?
My inspiration comes from colors I see in nature, conversations I have, items I see in the craft store, and also the canvas in front of me. Looking at the person in front of me and feeling their vibration is a large part of my creative process.
Q6. Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
I sit down and brainstorm all of my shoots and create a shot list/treatment.
Q7. Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
As a makeup artist, I am a paid professional as a photographer I am an enthusiast.
Q8. Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Canon!!! My favorite lens is 24mm! I’m a prime lens girl. I shoot in small spaces so the 24mm gives me an opportunity to maximize my space.
Q09. What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer or Make-up Artist looking to start their own business?
Don’t give up! The only way to lose is if you give up!
Q10. What do you think of our new magazine?
I think it’s an amazing space to showcase artists. Thank you for this opportunity!
