Birrot AW25

Existing at the intersection of Copenhagen and Seoul, Birrot fuses two distinct identities to create a brand built on duality. Founded in 2018, Fall-Winter 2025 marks the fourteenth collection for Birrot – but its first presented in a show format. After almost seven years spent refining and honing the brand, this season is an opportunity to elevate the offering while further exploring the cultural contrasts that have come to define Birrot.

The mutual pragmatism in design shared by both cultures lends a distinct perspective to Birrot's minimalism. Silhouettes are simple and decidedly straightforward, eschewing excess for precision. Colours are few and tightly curated, with collections typically employing four or five tones.

Birrot for us is about the connection between Denmark and Korea. We grew up in Seoul and were inspired by traditional garments and learned Korean patterns as our foundation. Moving to Copenhagen introduced us to a totally new mindset and reshaped our approach to design. Korean garments are inherently about layering, designed to lie flat but come alive on the body. Whereas Danish design platforms function and simplicity

Birrot proposes a modular uniform, garments crafted to blend seamlessly across seasons. While many pieces are unisex, the brand's core lies in designing for women. Garments aren't made for one specific type of person, but designed to suit any age or identity.

At the heart of all collections is the brand's signature and self-developed fabric, Lay, created from layers of bonded crepe. Fall-Winter 2025 sees Lay across the collection in four forms – Lay1 in a pair of gathered, voluminous trousers, Lay2 in a sleeveless dress with draped ruching around the waist, Lay3 in a form-fitting blazer, and Lay4 in a structured boxy jacket.

Lay allows us to explore the relationship between structure and fluidity. It creates garments that adapt to the body and take on new shapes with movement. This season we also expanded on our woven and knitwear programmes in the same tones as our Lay pieces for added richness.

Photographs of Sey and Min's respective mothers (who coincidentally share the same name) always mark a starting point for a collection. Informing the color palette with rich tones like deep maroons, inky blue-blacks, silver greys. "We're always inspired by old photos of our moms. The textures, colors, and feelings in those pictures guide us every season," Sey adds.

Titled The Highway, the show takes its inspiration from a rainy day in Seoul and sees the Birrot woman caught in a downpour, crossing the Yeongdong Bridge. Her skin is misted, her hair a little mussed. Celebrating the journey between the two worlds, The Highway symbolises the bridge between Korean and Danish cultures that lie at the core of Birrot.
